5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 (NKJV)
“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit…”
To abide is to dwell, to remain, to lodge, or even to endure and continue. But how often do we find ourselves merely visiting Jesus? On Sunday’s at church, during our quiet times with scripture, when we really need something… We stumble and fall through life blindly so often because we take our eyes off of Christ, and then we come back to him for comfort, clarity, and grace. This is not to say repentance and seeking grace are wrong behaviors, but the issue is that we tend to ignore when our problems are stemming from, and often amplified by, our failure to completely and totally Abide in Jesus.
The truth is that Jesus is absolutely perfect at doing this for us. He has made a holy dwelling place of your heart, and will not be leaving you no matter how much you deserve it. His grace allows us to draw near to him as he has to us, and to have full access to his wisdom and guidance 24/7, 365 days a year. It is our responsibility to abide in him through diligent and honest prayer, and to seek him and his guidance in his Word. That is absolutely the only way we can bear the glorious fruit that Jesus is speaking of. And without him, we are truly helpless to accomplish anything at all.
