Fighter Verse Reflection: Psalm 141:3-4

3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.4 Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. Psalm 141:3-4

Out of the heart the mouth the heart speaks. The words we speak can be gracious and sweet like a honeycomb to the soul, or they can be a spark that sets an entire forest ablaze. When our hearts are set on what the flesh desires we sin in ways that hurt us and those around us, but when we look to Christ for direction and deliverance from temptation, we will find that he always leads us to the path of life, and never into sin. Only God has the power to change the wickedness of our bent hearts. Without him we would have no desire or ability to repent from evil, and the delicacies of men would continue to fill our bellies with an empty satisfaction.

Dependence on his guiding hand is truly the only way that leads to righteousness. Constantly striving to do better on your own will leave you a failure, but calling out to God in humility asking that he would heal your desire for sin will be your redemption.
