Psalm 8

What Is Man?

Text

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
    and the son of man that you care for him?

5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
    and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
    you have put all things under his feet

(Psalm 8:4-6)

Mind

  • What does this Psalm say about the size and the dignity/value of man?

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
    and the son of man that you care for him?

5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
    and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
    you have put all things under his feet (Psalm 8:4-6)

Motive

  • Why is the writer of this Psalm so amazed?

  • Do you ever stop and let your mind think about God’s magnitude? If not, why?

    • The Lord tells us in Psalm 46:10 to, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Mission

  • According to Psalm 8, we are given dominion (control - care-taking) over the works of God’s hands. What does that mean?

  • When you think about your life and its purpose, do you ever consider what your creator has called you to do? What would it look like for you to take dominion over God’s kingdom? What did he tell the disciples? Good examples - (Matthew 4:18-24; 28:19-21)

Memory Verse

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10)
